SETI@home is a SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) sky survey at the radio telescope in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Data from the sky is sent over the internet to hundreds of thousands of client "screen saver" programs running on home computers (like ours!) for data analysis. The SETI@home program lets your computer help the world's largest radio telescope search for extraterrestrial intelligence. SETI@home is also a good test of your PC's speed!
When I first heard about SETI@home I thought it was a neat idea.
It is neat not only for the chance to participate in the science, but for what a collabrative undertaking... suggests about what we can do with our PCs working in concert.
